Dulse, a reddish colored seaweed, grows in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. An important source of fiber, Dulse is typically used as a snack food around the world. The earliest known use of this algae can be traced to the monks of St. Columba, who used Dulse more than 1,400 years ago.
Dulse grows attached to rocks as well as on Laminaria. As a short striped algae, the color can range from deep maroon to deep red. With a leathery texture when raw, Dulse is typically dried before consuming.
